I know, right?! It was SO HARD to pick just two tracks to upload. But I had to go with the harpsichords, because harpsichords in rock music FTW.

Hey, I'm listening to Vampire Weekend right now! We saw them on SNL a while back and I very much enjoyed them, so George bought the CD. Yesterday, actually. And I agree, they are delightful! I keep being reminded of The Clash. But maybe that's just me. And now I shall see what I think of Sons and Daughters. But I must confess, I did not at all enjoy the book Sons and Daughters :)

That's awesome, Abby! SNL has been doing a good job picking bands on and off, even though it doesn't really make me laugh any more. I'm glad you like Vampire Weekend. You may not like Sons & Daughters as much. They're...noisier. ;)

also, i'm a total bonehead. i always want the book to be called sons and daughters, but it's not. it's sons and lovers or wives and daughters. sons and lovers is the one that is dreadful. wives and daughters is delightful. neither have anything to do with the band though :) and noisier is not always bad. when i get the chance, i'll have a little listen.

Hee. We had to read Sons and Lovers for Modern British Lit last summer. It was my favorite of the three D.H. Lawrence novels we read, but that wasn't saying much. It was like learning to breathe again when we switched to Virginia Woolf. I don't know Wives and Daughters.

i am totally with you on d.h. lawrence. wives and daughters is an awesome miniseries that the BBC did, if you want to skip the 700+ page novel. i have the miniseries on DVD and will happily lone it to you if you're interested. just let me know next time you're in town to get it. i recently loned it to jon and annie b. and they both loved it. or read the book, you know, 'cause you don't read enough as it is :)

I like Vampire Weekend... they remind me of the Beetles a bit, but then I have never heard The Clash that I knew what I was listening to. Its not so much the actual sound that they produce, but the form and tonality of the music that is Beetles-esque to me. ;0) Fun stuff.

Abby - I just looked up Wives and Daughters, and it's by Elizabeth Gaskell. Huh. I've never read anything by her, but one of my friends is currently planning to write her thesis on her--she's much more into Victorian fiction than I am. ;)

Holly - I've been listening to the Beatles a lot lately, and it keeps hitting me how much my current favorite indie bands owe them. I mean, seriously...they did everything first! So awesome. I'm not sure I would've noted the Clash similarity myself, if it weren't for Abby pointing it out; but they're British Invasion, too, I guess, just a little later. Maybe I'll post some Clash next week.
