It's not really about being someone totally different (i.e., lying to your readers about who you are), it's about testing who you are and pushing your own limits.

Re: Blogging is Life-Changing

Jandy, I really liked the third observation... about blogging being a place where one could experiment with and shape identity. Maybe it's a little like improv... taking roles and seeing which ones ultimately fit.

L.L. And thanks, I think grad school did exactly what I wanted it to in that sense - give me the foundation for literature (and related things like film) that I could use to write in a less formal way for a less specialized audience. But before I didn't have that foundation and didn't know where to start.

And please, did you not see this post? Verbose indeed - certainly more so than yours! I kept thinking "I should edit this down, it's too long," but did I? No. I still have trouble editing myself.

Re: Blogging is Life-Changing

I am glad you were happy to be "it"! I like the way that you are still able to incorporate your ever increasing knowledge of film into a broader context. Ultimately, much of the way that you write is still shaped by a solid foundation of understanding literature and literary theory! But, that's why I like the way that you write - it is intelligent and thoughtful. And i have to say, you give me much to pursue in so far as the ability to write clearly and concisely....did anyone say I could be a little verbose.
